Personal Introduction: 
Shengxiong Yang, Ph.DResearch professor. He is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Marine Geology and Mineral Resources Research Group at the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou), a research professor (Level 2) at the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey,China Geological Survey Chief Scientist of the "Deep Sea Exploration Innovation Project" of the China Geological Survey, and a elected member of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC) of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), a member of the China IODP Expert Advisory Committee, a member of the Natural Resources and Territory Spatial Planning Technical Committee of Standardization Administration of China  (SAC/TC93) and vice chair of the Geological and Mineral Exploration Evaluation Sub-Technical Committee (SAC/TC93/SC1), Director of the Key Laboratory of Marine Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources, and the principal of the "Natural Gas Hydrate Research Team" of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
He is mainly engaged in the investigation and research of deep sea minerals, marine natural gas hydrates, and the development of high-tech marine exploration technology. He has served as the Chief Geosientist of the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, expert panels member of the subject and Expert Committees member of the priority “Sea Technology” of 863 Program, expert panels member of the subject “Deep Sea Key Technologies and Equipment” of the National Key R&D Program of China, chief Scientist of the project “Research on the Enrichment Characteristics and Production Knowledge Base of Gas Hydrate in South China Sea” supported by National Basic Research Program(973 Program), a guiding expert group member of the "South China Sea Deep Sea Process Evolution" major research program supported by NSFC, and Chief Scientist of the project “Deep Sea Mineral Resources Investigation and Estimation Research” supported by COMRA. As the project/subject principal, he has undertaken more than 20 projects/subjects supported by National 863 Programs, 973 Programs, NSFC, COMRA,etc., published 9 monographs (co-authored), Atlas of Geology and Geophysics of South China Sea , and more than 70 papers. He has won 4 first prizes in ministerial scientific and technological achievements awards (ranking 1st, 1st, 9th, 4th), 2 second prizes (both 2nd), 4 third prizes (1st, 2nd, 2nd, 4th), and 3  Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards of CGS (1 special prize, 2 first prizes, all 1st). He has established the Key Laboratory of Marine Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources (as the first director of the laboratory, 2012-) and the "Natural Gas Hydrate Research Team" of the Ministry of Natural Resources (as the team leader, 2013-). He has been awarded the "Outstanding Young Scientist and Technician" (1996), "Expert with Outstanding Contributions to the Ocean" (2001), 20th Anniversary "Outstanding Contribution Award" (2011) by COMRA, "First Batch of Excellent Young and Middle-aged Talents" by the China Geological Survey (2001), "Top 100 Talents Plan" by the Ministry of Land and Resources (2002), "Outstanding Young Scientific and Technical Talent" by the Ministry of Land and Resources (2006), State Council Special Government Allowance (2012), and "Jiaolong Deep-Sea Manned Submersible 7000m Class Sea Trial Advanced Individual" by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the State Oceanic Administration (2012). He has been selected as a high-level leading (outstanding) talent in Guangzhou Nansha (Certificate B) (2021), a high-level talent in Guangzhou (Outstanding Expert Certificate B) (2022), Guangdong Talent Priority Card A (2018), the third echelon of high-level scientific and technological innovation talents of the Ministry of Natural Resources (2019), and a national-level candidate for the Millions of Talents Project (2009).
Research Directions: Oceanic minerals, marine natural gas hydrate investigation and research, basic research on marine geological and geophysical foundations, and the development of marine exploration high-tech technology.
