On September 18, 2023, Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) (hereinafter referred to as GML) signed a cooperation agreement with The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (hereinafter referred to as HKUST (GZ)).
At the signing ceremony, Prof. Qian Peiyuan, Deputy Director of GML, and Prof. Wu Jingshen, Vice President (Teaching) of HKUST (GZ), signed the agreement. Academician Zhang Si, Director of GML, Professor Ni Mingxuan, President of HKUST (GZ) and other leaders and guests witnessed the signing ceremony.
Academician Zhang Si stated that GML is positioned with the mission of "rooted in the Bay Area, deeply cultivating the South China Sea, and transcending the deep blue", actively exploring in areas such as serving the country's major strategies, promoting the construction of significant technological platforms, and gathering elite talents in marine science and technology, achieving multiple phased breakthroughs and laying a solid foundation for supporting the international science and technology innovation center in the Greater Bay Area. The cooperation with HKUST (GZ) is bound to bring more innovations and breakthroughs in the interdisciplinary development of marine science, promote the sharing of technological and educational talent resources, and play an important role in facilitating the incubation of marine industries and technologies.
President Ni Mingxuan said in his speech that HKUST (GZ) has established a top-notch interdisciplinary research team in the field of land, ocean and atmosphere research. Based on the strategic hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, this cooperation will give full play to the core advantages of both parties in their respective fields, focus on cutting-edge innovation fields and scientific and technological trends such as the frontier basic research direction of marine science, produce scientific and technological research results, attract and cultivate a large number of world-class comprehensive scientific and technological industry talents from all over the world, provide support for the development of marine high-tech industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and contribute to China's construction of a "Marine Power".
