The Greater Bay Area Science Forum is a global, high-level scientific event initiated by the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) and jointly hosted by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. Upholding the vision of “Exploring the Future, Sharing Science,” the Forum has developed into a world-class international platform that brings together leading scientists, policymakers, and industry pioneers from around the globe. It aims to deepen interdisciplinary dialogue and promote collaborative innovation and common development.

The Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou) will host the Marine Science Sub-forum in Nansha, Guangzhou, on October 31, under the theme “Deep-Sea Exploration and Smart Ocean.” The sub-forum actively responds to the global Ocean Decade and Science Decade initiatives launched by the United Nations and advocates the use of cutting-edge technologies such as big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence to better understand, observe, and utilize the ocean.

The forum will focus on two major areas: “Deep-Sea Exploration and Resource Development” and “Intelligent Observation and Detection for a Transparent Ocean.” Scientific discussions will be held on these topics, with the aim of providing refined, multi-level and multi-scale characterization of the ocean from the abyss to the sea surface, and jointly envisioning the future of the smart ocean.
